Implant-supported bridges in Ireland

When you are missing three or four teeth in a row, you do not need to pay for a separate dental implant for every single tooth. An implant-supported 3-unit bridge anchors a three-tooth zirconia bridge onto just two titanium implants for €3,800 to €6,500 in Ireland — or €3,040 to €5,200 after claiming 20% Form Med 2 tax relief.

Tooth-supported vs implant-supported vs 3 individual implants

Option for 3 missing teeth in a rowGross clinic priceAfter 20% Med 2 reliefWhy dentists recommend or avoid it
3-unit implant-supported bridge (2 implants + 3-tooth bridge)€3,800 to €6,500€3,040 to €5,200Gold standard for 3 missing teeth: saves the cost of a 3rd implant screw, preserves jawbone, and never touches neighbouring natural teeth
3 separate individual implants + 3 crowns€6,000 to €8,400€4,800 to €6,720Higher cost, and placing 3 implants side by side in a tight space can leave too little bone between implants
5-unit tooth-supported bridge (on natural teeth)€3,200 to €5,500€2,560 to €4,400A 3-tooth span puts heavy leverage on natural abutment teeth and is only possible if the end teeth have very long, strong roots

The stages of getting an implant-supported bridge

  1. 3D CBCT scan and planning: a 3D jaw scan checks bone height and width at the two outer positions of the gap.
  2. Implant placement (1 visit under local anaesthetic): two titanium implants are placed at either end of the three-tooth gap. A temporary denture or temporary bridge can be worn while the bone integrates over 3 to 4 months.
  3. Digital scan and screw-retained zirconia bridge: once healed, the dentist scans the two implants and fits a custom 3-unit zirconia bridge (often screw-retained so the dentist can unscrew and service it years later without cutting the bridge).

Questions patients ask

Can a single dental implant be joined to a natural tooth in one bridge?

Dentists strongly avoid joining a rigid implant (which is fused directly to bone) to a natural tooth (which has a flexible periodontal ligament that moves slightly when you bite), as the difference in movement can loosen the natural tooth crown. Bridges are either supported by natural teeth only or by implants only.

Does the entire implant-supported bridge qualify for 20% Form Med 2 tax relief?

Yes. Both the surgical placement of the dental implants and the 3-unit bridge restoration on top qualify for 20% non-routine dental tax relief on Form Med 2.
